Common problems that we may expect to encounter in the workplace could include competitive colleagues and gossip at the water cooler, but mental health issues may not be something that we expect.

However, the issue of mental health in the workplace is very real. In the year 2010/2011, around 400,000 people reported experiencing work-induced stress that they believed had escalated to a level that made them ill.

Whilst feeling stressed may come hand-in-hand with high-pressured roles and industries, it is important to monitor and address to ensure that it does not escalate into severe problems. For example, both burnout and depression can stem from unresolved stress, which can be detrimental to a person’s workload and wellbeing in general.
